Scenario Planning for a Potential Harris Presidency: What Social Sector Leaders Need to Know

Sep 05, 2024

Scenario planning is all about preparing for different possibilities. It helps us anticipate shifts so that we can adapt our strategies quickly in a changing political environment. The pace of change has accelerated, and the challenges we face are more complex than ever. To keep up, the social sector must be resilient and flexible. By identifying likely scenarios, we can be ready to adapt and ensure our organizations not only survive but thrive, regardless of what’s coming at us.

As we look ahead to the possibility of Kamala Harris stepping into the Presidency, the social sector has a unique opportunity to drive significant progress for marginalized communities. Harris’s policies are closely aligned with the values many of us champion. However, after years of political polarization, we’ll need to be ready to act quickly, seizing opportunities while staying mindful of the ongoing disruption from disinformation, social violence, and divisiveness.

The takeaway from past political changes is clear: being prepared makes all the difference. Organizations that engage in scenario planning are better equipped to navigate rapid changes. This proactive approach will be crucial no matter who’s in the White House. (See our July 2024 Webinar offering, Scenario Planning for a Possible 2nd Trump Presidency.)
